The Music Department is staffed by 2 full-time members of staff and 1 part-time staff member with 11 peripatetic instrumental teachers supplying a mixture of the county’s Inspiring Music and private tuition. Our aim is to provide educational qualifications to anyone who is enthusiastic about music and provide a varied curriculum to everyone who has a love for music.

Subjects offered:
Level 2 Music Technology Extended Diploma NCFE
A Level Music Edexcel
A Level Music Technology Edexcel

Extra-curricular Activities (with brief description):
We have a high-proportion of extra-curricular activities involving Jazz Band, Film Orchestra, Vocal Group, Advanced String Ensemble, an annual Musical, Christmas Concerts and Band Practice. We are always looking to start new clubs where the interest lies, from Music Technology qualifications after school to Recorder Group. The department is (nearly!) always open to students who want to develop their music interest.

Successes and reasons for choosing this subject(s):
Rated an “outstanding” department at the last Ofsted inspection, students “consistently attain higher than average grades”. Indeed, our last GCSE cohort were the joint highest achieving subject in the school with an 88% A*-C rate and 45% achieving an A or A*. This is a popular subject that boasts a true community feel across the years, a happy environment. Currently and in the past, we can boast a National Youth Orchestra Violinist, Rotary Club instrumental finalists, musicians with scholarships to Conservatoires, a finalist in Roundhouse Rising Youth DJ, County finalist for Battle of the Bands and a current Young Drummer of the Year National Finalist.
