VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Beauty Therapy Studies (massage) (QCF)

Course outline:
This qualification is a technical level qualification that provides learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work as a massage therapist either as an employee or in a self-employed capacity. 

The content of this qualification is comprised of  mandatory units including; health and safety, client care and communication and body massage incorporating anatomy and physiology.  You will also enhance your skills with optional units such as Indian head massage, massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils and origins, principles and theories of massage.

This qualification has been designed to build on the existing knowledge and understanding of beauty therapy gained at level 2 and enables learners to expand the scope of their technical skills already developed. 

Course content:

  • Client care and communication in beauty-related industries
  • Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon
  • Provide body massage
  • Origins, principles and theories of massage
  • Provide Indian Head massage
  • Provide massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils
Assessment Methods
Students are continually assessed throughout the course through practical and written tests and assignments.

Further training/development
Career opportunities as a massage therapist exist in a variety of contexts, including:

- Working in commercial beauty salons

- Working in day spas/hotels

- Working independently/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings

- Working on cruise liners

Whilst this qualification’s primary purpose is to prepare learners for employment as a massage therapist, learners may choose to complement their skill base by undertaking specialist qualifications in related therapies such as:

- VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Thai massage (QCF)

- VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Reflexology (QCF)

- VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Aromatherapy (QCF)

Course entry requirements: A level 2 Beauty Therapy qualification is essential.

Course duration: 1 year starting September 2015, Thursday and Friday each week.
