The Geography department is staffed by 2 specialist experienced teachers. We teach the full range and ability of students from Year 9 -13. On occasion experienced teachers with geography as a second subject deliver the year 9 curriculum. The department offers the following courses:

  • Year 9 Geography: Preparing for GCSE
  • GCSE Geography (AQA exam board)
  • AS level Geography (AQA exam board)
  • A Level Geography (AQA exam board)

Each year we teach the majority of each cohort at GCSE and approximately 20-30 students choose to study Geography at A level. Many of our student’s progress onto the top Universities to study geography or gain employment where the skills and qualifications achieved whilst studying geography at Cedars Upper School are key.

We offer a range of trips and enrichment activities to support the geography curriculum each year such as:

- Local river trips to collect primary data for the field work investigation at GCSE level.

- Visit a Field Studies Centre in Buckinghamshire to collect primary data for the AS and A level examined field work component
- 'Future Geographers’ day at Manchester University meeting top lecturers in their field. Working in the laboratories. Young geographers of the year award’ annual competition.
- Fair trade fortnight each February. - Teacher exchange with our partner school in Kenya.
